At Burley Primary School, we have a varied timetable that includes (in addition to rigorous opportunities for the children to learn, embed and extend the key skills of reading, writing and maths) specialist music tuition, French, PHSE, Religious Education, Sport, Swimming (one term), Extended Writing, History and Geography cross curricular session.

We also provide opportunities for our children to apply their mathematical understanding through Science, Art, Design and Technology.

Computer skills are an integral part of the curriculum and are taught/applied in all subjects. We have already started introducing the new computing curriculum and have purchased resources to support our provision for programming.

In our Early Years Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 the children develop their phonetic understanding through the Letters and Sounds programme.

Throughout the school a creative and active approach to learning is pursued wherever possible, enhanced by opportunities to learn through real and first hand experiences. We take the opportunity to add to the curriculum by inviting visitors into school and by arranging trips to a variety of venues.

Our pupils participate in different sporting events where they compete against other schools. We have trained coaches who teach a variety of sports to our children and run a selection of clubs for both Key Stage One and Key Stage Two children. The school staff  run other clubs after school during the year which vary term to term. All of our Key Stage 2 children participate in residential trips.

We are also part of a Pyramid of Schools based in and around the Ringwood area. We work collaboratively on a number of curriculum based initiatives including extension activities for our more able pupils and shared training opportunities. These links enable us to share expertise across the Pyramid as well as ensuring a smooth onward transition for our children.

If you would like to find out more about our Curriculum; any other aspect of our school’s provision or to arrange a visit please do not hesitate to contact the school directly.
